Candidate classification vs result classification

The word "classification" appears twice in the PDF workflow. They serve different purposes. The Step 3 Informative or Logo choice is retained with the imported queue item, while the analyzed result has its own classification.

Candidate classification (Step 3 · Classify)

An intake decision: should this detected image be analyzed at all? Made on each candidate card before anything is sent to the AI.

Choices: Informative — needs alt text, Logo — brand mark / seal, Decorative — no descriptive alt needed, Artifact — ignore / layout noise, Unsure — decide later. Applying decisions queues Informative and Logo candidates and dismisses Decorative and Artifact ones.

Result classification (Step 5 · Review)

A description of the analyzed image: what kind of image the result is about. It appears on each analyzed result.

Choices: Informative image, Functional image, Chart / Graph, Infographic / Diagram, Complex / Other, Image of Text, Logo / Brand mark, Decorative image. Changing it updates the guidance shown and what exports record; it does not rewrite the alt text or undo the Step 3 import/dismiss decision.

In short

  • Step 3 decides whether an image enters the review queue.
  • Step 5 describes what the analyzed image is, for guidance and records.
